I'm a reporter and American Studies PhD candidate at Boston University, where I'm writing a narrative history on the invention of an idea - the modern independent reporter - told through the lives of several reporters and their complicated, often secret, relationships with U.S. intelligence agencies.

I've taught investigative journalism and 20th century international relations. Previously, I was a Steiger Fellow at the Committee to Protect Journalists and worked in their journalist assistance program. Before that I reported for GlobalPost and other news outlets.
